In short
Once the request is confirmed and the short countdown has run, the fax is normally delivered within one to two minutes.
When many faxes are queued at the same moment, allow a few extra minutes; the tracking page keeps you posted at every step.
The usual delay
In most cases, one to two minutes pass between the start of transmission and delivery. At peak times, your fax may wait briefly in the queue before a line is assigned to it.
The steps, and what slows them down
Two quick steps come before transmission: clicking the link you receive by email, within three minutes, then a countdown of about 55 seconds during which you can still cancel.
After that, three things matter: the page count, since each page goes through one after the other; whether the recipient's machine is free, as a busy line forces a retry; and line quality, which can make both machines drop their speed.
Seeing where your fax is
The tracking page refreshes on its own every 5 seconds and shows the current state, from queued through to delivered or failed. No need to reload.
