Sending a fax to Belgium
Country code +32 and the Belgian number format: fax a PDF to any Belgian landline from your browser. 1 page free, €3.99 from 2 pages.
A Belgian landline number has nine digits, including the leading 0. Big cities have a one-digit zone — 02 for Brussels, 03 for Antwerp, 04 for Liège, 09 for Ghent — while elsewhere the zone has two digits, such as 081 for Namur, 071 for Charleroi, 065 for Mons or 016 for Leuven. Watch out for numbers starting 047, 048 or 049: they have ten digits and belong to mobile phones, which cannot receive faxes.
Health insurance funds (mutualités/ziekenfondsen), municipalities, notaries and bailiffs, payroll offices and many medical practices in Belgium still keep a fax line, often printed at the foot of their letters.
Mind the recipient’s language: a cover page in Dutch for Flanders, French for Wallonia or German for the eastern cantons helps your fax get handled quickly.
Select Belgium and type the number with its 0, without +32 — spaces are fine. Faxing a single page costs nothing; from two pages it is €3.99 incl. VAT per fax, however thick the file. The PDF receipts, offered at €2.99 incl. VAT, are only charged if the Belgian machine actually received the document.

Belgium: who still receives faxes?
- Municipalities, public social welfare centres (CPAS/OCMW), Finance offices and the Immigration Office: depending on the department, the fax number still appears on letters — and it often differs from the switchboard.
- Doctors, pharmacies, hospitals and health insurance funds still exchange prescriptions, reports and certificates by fax, alongside the eHealthBox reserved for care providers.
- Court registries and bailiffs use fax for practical exchanges; lawyers file their submissions electronically.
- Insurance brokers and companies, notaries and property managers still accept signed documents by fax, such as a claim form or a power of attorney.
We never publish an organisation’s fax number: use the one printed on a recent letter or on the recipient’s official website.
The official digital alternative
eBox receives official documents from public bodies (log in with itsme or the electronic ID card), eBox Enterprise does the same for companies, and MyMinfin holds the tax file. Care providers use the eHealthBox, lawyers file through DPA-Deposit, and Just-on-web handles some court procedures online.
Belgium: time zone and office hours
| Time zone | Central European Time: UTC+1 (CET), UTC+2 in summer (CEST) |
|---|---|
| Difference with Paris | None: same time as Paris |
| Usual office hours | Offices: often 8:30 a.m.–12 noon and 1:30–4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Municipal counters keep their own hours, sometimes with an evening slot; most services close on 21 July, the national holiday. |
Belgium: frequently asked questions
- Why does the form reject a number starting with 04?
- It does not, as long as the number has 9 digits: 04 is the Liège area code. A 10-digit number starting with 04 (0470, 0496…) is a mobile, and mobiles cannot receive faxes.
- Do I enter the +32?
- No. Enter the Belgian number with its 0, for example 02 345 67 89. If you paste +32 2 345 67 89, the form converts it for you.
- Can I fax a Belgian municipality?
- Yes, when the department gives a fax number on its letters or website. Many now prefer email or online forms. Aim for the right department (population, civil status, planning): its fax often differs from the main number.
